Topping the wish lists of plenty of mum’s Mother’s Days is to enjoy a decadent breakfast, brunch or lunch with the family. High Tea is also high on the list for Mums who want to enjoy some family time with a bit of indulgence thrown in.

Best Breakfast & Brunch Venues

Take the morning off and have someone cook up breakfast for you with a quality espresso to kick start your Mother’s Day. Or better still, tell the kids you’ll be sleeping in and get them to take you out for brunch where a glass of champagne is surely obligatory at that hour of the day to reward yourself for all your great efforts as a Mum!

For a breakkie out, check out one of our Top 10 Cafes with a Play Area, where the kids will be kept busy so you can sit back with a strong coffee and well-deserved breakkie! You also can’t go wrong with the best-ever gluten free pancakes at COOH in Alexandria (above), or the Like Mum Made It Menu at the Centennial Homestead, where there’ll be a hot breakkie with sweet and savoury grazing stations (at $60/adult, and $28/child), plus a rose and mocktail for every mum.

You can always trust The Grounds of Alexandria to put on a good party; plant yourselves at The Potting Shed for their Mother’s Day Sunday Brunchwhere they’ll be $10 Mimosas for mum after 10am! We’ll take any excuse for a morning bevvie…

A Like Mum Made it Menu has also been curated at the open-air Botanic Gardens Restaurant (pictured above) where amongst the picturesque greenery, you can dig into Head Chef Matt Fletcher’s special British dish inspired by his mum: Roasted Pork Cutlet with fresh garden vegetables, homemade apple sauce and pan-made gravy.

Best Lunch Venues

If you can’t remember the last time went out for a long Sunday lunch then there’s no better time to splurge than Mother’s Day! You can’t go wrong with any of our favourite family friendly pubs around Sydney. With plenty of room for prams and active children, play areas, kids menus and activity packs and cheap, hearty meals, our list contains some top spots for hungry mums and dads with little ones in tow.

We’ve got our eyes on the Coogee Pavilion (pictured above) where they’ll be fresh flowers for sale, all-day Mimosas for Mum, fun family photo opportunities, a kids card-making workshop, face painting and a FREE blow dry and mani for mums and little ones. To avoid having to wait for a table, book your spot in advance for lunch or dinner.

For the full dining experience, we recommend the 4-Course Like Mum Made It menu at the Pavilion on the Domain ($95/adult, $55 a head for kids 3-12). Sit back with views of the Sydney skyline over an Italian shared feast. This comes with a glass of prosecco and a posy for mum, as well as tasty morsels like Fish & Fennel in a Parcel, and a Warm Pear & Orange Cake in Milk Chocolate Soup…drool!

If views are what you’re after, book a table at 360 Bar and Dining for revolving views of Sydney over a 4-course set menu for mum ($99/adult, $40 a head for kids 3-12). There’ll be a complimentary glass of champas for mum, and the special menu features goodies like Sydney Rock Oysters with Gin & Tonic Foam, and Honey Soy Glazed Beef Shortrib.

For something a little lighter on the wallet, go to town at the Sydney Tower Buffet (above) with the 55+ different dishes! You’ll find Chinese, Italian, and everything in between at $65/adult and $27.50/child aged 3-12; the price includes a Sydney Tower Lift Pass for some extra explorer family fun on the day!

Prefer to be out and about in nature? Head to one of these beautiful gardens to take in the splendour of Autumn colours – check for lunch availability at cafes in the area, or just use the lush grounds for a homemade picnic.

Best High Tea Venues

Who doesn’t love a Marie Antoinette-style arvo?!

One high tea venue at the top of our list is the Radisson Blu Plaza, where natural light will filter through antique windows while you munch on cucumber sandwiches, classic scones, swiss rolls and hand-crafted teas.

There’s a heap of Mother’s Day happenings at Barangaroo, including a lazy Louisianan High Tea at the French Quarter of Nola Smokehouse and Bar (starting at $60/pp). Here you’ll get a bite of everything from lobster rolls and scones with bourbon and peach marmalade, to s’mores with blackberry and smoked chocolate, all paired with bottomless fresh lemonade or Southern Iced Tea…or perhaps Nola’s spiked lemonade.

Say cheers with some bubbles at the Stamford Circular Quay’s Mother’s Day High Tea ($89/adult, $42/child aged 5-12), before digging into finger sandwiches, mandatory scones and mini morsels…there’s even a take-home gift for every mum.

For something super special, have High Tea 30 levels above the harbour in the Intercontinental Sydney’s Harbour Room; take in the views of the Opera House, Eastern Harbour and Royal Botanic Gardens while dining on sweet treats like pecan praline and buttermilk vanilla and raisin scones, curated by the Intercon’s Head of Pastry Simon Veauvy. Coffee more your thing? The coffee and food pairings at the High Coffee in the Heritage Room at the InterCon Sydney (pictured above) are a must ($99/adult, $65/child 5-12 years).
